Blue Object
Software, LLC, focusing on .NET 3.5 and C# 3.0
May, 2008
I have have been working with VS
2008, .NET 3.5 and C# 3.0. I started with the "orcas" beta on a virtual
machines using VM-Ware's Workstation. I have created applications using
the WCSF as well as the GAT/Extensions for using the Model-View-Presenter
integrated with the new UNITY IOC container on the back end as well as the newer
ADO Entity Framework beta 3 with LINQ. My favorite features of C# 3.0 is
the ability to use LINQ and lambda expressions with the ADO EF. Finally
application developers do not have to write their own custom DAL layer. I
was able to use the ADO EF to generate an entity data model from my SQL Server
2005 database then build a business layer on top of the generated entities and
then used object queries against the database. L2S would work
well also but my focus has been on the OR/M capabilities of ADO EF. ADO EF
is still in its infancy if it is going to provide most of the features offered
by more mature OR mappers but I like the progress that is coming from the ADO EF
team. I'm following
the evolution of the ADO EF because I am highly interested in serialization of EF
object graphs (hopefully to be released in ADO EF 1.0 RTM). For now,
object graphs are only binary serialized - which means hosting your ADO EF using
WCF requires some work if you plan on serializing and hydrating object
hierarchies. For now, I just use the DAL assembly directly in my projects.
My goals for 2008 is to stay on top of the technologies and offer clients a
solid path to building their application architectures without spending wasted
time on proof of concepts so the client can focus on the business model.
In 2008 I plan to get an offical RSS based blog and offer more examples of the
exciting VS 2008, WCSF, Unity, ADO EF and C# 3.0 features.
Blue Object
Software, LLC, using Telerik RAD Controls w/ AJAX
Jan, 2008
I've started using Telerik Rad
controls w/ AJAX for my personal web-based application development. The
Telerik Rad controls offer a wealth of ASP.NET Ajax enabled controls which are
easy to use and fully functional controls for your web application. I've
used Infragistics on past projects and I would recommend the Telerik controls
for web-based projects because they appear to be better architected and have
better performance. For certain tasks you still need infragistics,
especially Winforms but the Telerik RAD controls for ASP.NET are worth the
extra look.
